PRUS notes Globalisation and Poverty

چکیده

There is no general consensus on the definition of globalisation. Put simply, it is a process of increasing connectivity, where ideas, capital, goods, services and people are transferred across country borders. This briefing paper discusses an aspect of economic globalisation – market access – and how this affects the rural poor. Despite all the criticisms lodged against globalisation, it is inevitable and difficult to harness. What is required is a concentration of effort at all levels in all countries to ensure that globalisation is poverty reducing, rather than inequality increasing and marginalising of those unable to get a foot in the door.
